Founded in 2003, Manifesta Journal is an international journal focusing on the practices and theories of contemporary curatorship. Manifesta Journal explores and analyzes current developments in curatorial work, in correspondence with the evolution of the Manifesta Biennial over the course of the past decade. The main aim of the journal is to give a stronger voice to an up-and-coming group of (non-) institutional curators, intellectuals, theorists and critics, and to function as a platform for the articulation and discussion of their positions within a pan-European and transcontinental context. Justified by what is now the “stable” status of the curator, by the diversity within the broader community of professional curators and by the network of curatorial schools, programs and courses in Europe and beyond, Manifesta Journal intends to continue stimulating the establishment of curatorial self-reflection and investigation. |
After the publication of a series of six Manifesta Journals between 2003 to 2005 (Chief Editors: Viktor Misiano and Igor Zabel, Managing Editor: Marieke van Hal), the reprint of this first series of Manifesta Journals in the format of two books (MJ#1-3 and MJ#4-6) in 2008, the second series of the Manifesta Journal (MJ #7-12) has been realized between 2009 and 2011 by the editorial team composed of Chief Editor Viktor Misiano, Senior Editor Nathalie Zonnenberg, Associate Editor Filipa Ramos, Managing Editor Lisa Mazza and the Copy Editors Joanna Fiduccia and Joshua Bauchner.
In 2011 Manifesta Journal Series 3 (MJ #13-18) will be launched. MJ Series 3 will be edited by a new editorial team (Chief Editor: Nataša Petrešin-Bachelez, Associate Editor: Virginie Bobin, Managing Editor: Lisa Mazza). For this new series changing Guest Editors will be invited to collaborate on one or more issues. MJ #13 will be guest edited by the Manifesta 9 curatorial team under the guidance of Cuauhtémoc Medina in collaboration with associate curators Katerina Gregos and Dawn Ades. MJ #14-16 will be realized with the collaboration of Rasha Salti. For the first time the Manifesta Journal will also be available in a digital format on this website. Manifesta Journal is an initiative of the Manifesta Foundation, Amsterdam. |
